The Road

More than halfway between San Nicolás and Sahagún the camino departs from the dirt track and crosses the highway. It heads towards the Ermita de la Virgen del Puente. Just beyond the ermita stands a monument which marks the geographical center of the camino, the halfway point. Naturally the math doesn’t quite add up, but you can be certain that you have crossed that half way point sometime between Moratinos and Sahagún.

I have a lot of food allergies so finding food on the Camino is really difficult. Not only was the staff so kind and understanding of my issues but they made sure that all of my allergies were taken care of. I had the best salad of the Camino and made with so much love! They even had almond milk and made me the best an almond milk latte ever!

From San Nicolás to Sahagún, the green dots on the app don’t match the current official trail marked by yellow arrows. The yellow arrows follow the road and might be shorter. The track has been planted with trees every few meters, so there is some shadow. It would be good to feature both in the app, but when in doubt I follow the arrows.

Stopped at the 2nd bar because we saw the signs on the Camino. So glad we did. The bocodillo was so fresh and tasty, so large I couldn't eat it all and the owner kindly offered tin foil to wrap the remainder. Highly recommend.

The first bar - on the right coming into town - gave us the best breakfast we’ve had on the Camino. The tortilla was cheesy and hot, and accompanied by a sliced heirloom tomato dashed with olive oil and salt. The café con leche was made with pride. And the zumo was fresh squeezed and delicious.

We went here after seeing the fun signs and it was delicious!! There was a deal for big coffee, fresh Juice, and toast with tomato and cheese for 5.50. Highly recommend for the charming setting and tasty food.

After San Nicolas del real Camino the signposted Camino is next to the highway all the way to the Ermita. I wasn't sure why the difference so followed the signs but I imagine the map on this app would have been a nicer walk if it still works. Might be worth documenting both as you have in other places if the old path still works.

You may see signs suggesting the "2nd bar" is excellent (one was signed by Socrates). I stopped in and found José and his bar to be very friendly and served good fresh food in a pleasant clean café. I would stop here again for certain. Cheers!
