Cirauqui sits perched atop a small hill and it seems that everywhere you go is uphill.  At the entrance to town is a medieval cross and at the top of town stands the Iglesia de San Román, the plaza, and an albergue.

Don’t forget to stamp your credentials under the archway.

Fiesta

The Day of the Cross is on the 14th of September, with a celebration from the 13th to the 19th.

History

Excavations in the surrounding area have turned up traces of a Roman settlement; a 2000-year-old milaro is preserved in the Iglesia de San Román, and the way out of town is over a Roman bridge.

Juan was amazing! He did everything from checking us in, getting drinks and cooking our delicious pilgrims communal dinner in the cellar
Highly recommend this lovely albergue

Loved the Albergue. We had a great communal meal there. The bar is small but is a nice place to catch up with people we saw on the way.

Hey, winter pilgrims! Finally a small town with an open bar for your rest stop. Bar Sociedad San Lorenzo. can be found after the first long climb up the walkway in town. Near the top is a shell pointing left. There is also a sign showing "BAR" 10 meters to the right. Great friendly service and HOT cafe con leche.

You need to look carefully to see the shells and arrows. But generally at the beginning of town go to the left and UP.

The albergue is clean and looks nice. However, only two toilets for 26 people! And though there are separate sex showers, in those rooms you don't have a little private space to take your clothes off.
As for dinner, I find it very average. Only upside is that it is not the typical chicken or trout.

It seems that the church is sometimes open on Monday and Wednesday evenings, and for Sunday mass. But you can marvel at the superb portal at any time of day!

A very comfortable and charming Albergue . Solid quiet bunks with the option of cotton sheets. A lovely terrace to relax on and a gorgeous dining room in the wine cellar. Good clean bathrooms - and separate sex showers. Dinner was delicious. Our favorite meal so far. Big thanks to the friendly chef and hosts.

Had a great experience at this albergue. Good vegetarian communal dinner, a lovely terrace, Wi-Fi, snacks, and laundry available.
