The ruins of the monastery and pilgrim hospital of San Antón is a delightful space that seems to embrace the camino, its archway spanning the road itself. Once a sprawling complex there is little that remains.

The albergue here has never seen better days, and the efforts of a dedicated team of volunteer hospitaleros keep the place as traditional as can be expected.

The niches in the archway, previously used by monks to deliver food to late arriving pilgrims, are now a popular spot to leave written messages.

Definitely open! I stayed here last night. Incredible, absolutely worth the extra 5kms. Of the 12 beds, there were 6 of us. I am a slow walker and didn’t arrive until just after 3pm and I was still only 4th of 6 :) two course meal, breakfast, incredible site, gracious hosts. A highlight of my Camino! There is no way to contact the hosts (even email, no reply) so no reservations.

My parents had recommended this place from their stay on the Camino, so I was so excited to see it is open!

I was very sad when they announced that both the albergue and the ruin will be closed from May 1 2024, due to lack of funding and safety reasons.
I see in the news that people have to wear protective helmets to walk underneath the arches.
This has been one of my favourite spot on Camino. I hope they will find a solution very soon.

Sleeping in ruins is undoubtedly a unique experience...
There is one room with 12 beds.
No hot water and very little cold water... no electricity, no WiFi. Cooking all together.
But! A very quiet and spiritual place.
All for donations.

A really great night. Beautiful, peaceful setting, great hospitality, shared meal, comfortable beds. This will be a highlight of your camino.

I was there at 16/17 october. It was the last night of the season, by now it's closed.

I left with a very strange feeling from here. It's a donativo, but the owner strongly incites you to give at least 15€. That's a lot for just a bed, a very simple meal and a small breakfast. I am fine with no electricity but not with no water in the shower at all (read, not even cold water). And I am not fine with asking for that amount of money for a subpar experience.

And will probably stay so until the end of the month. Don't count on a lot of cold water though because of the drought.

Several of the pilgrims staying here today thought the albergue was closed but it's very much open. No hot water, no electricity and no WiFi but the atmosphere more than makes up for all that.
