With changing times Ventosa has found itself separated from the camino by the rearrangement of yellow arrows for the sake of shaving 800m from the camino. There are two bars, an albergue, and a usually lively atmosphere as the majority of pilgrims continue to mark this path.

Not sure why this is an alternate route… don’t know who decides which way the trail goes or why. I walked in here this morning after staying in Nevarrete- great scenic walk to the town, especially when juxtaposed to the highway walk. Had a great breakfast (7:30 am) at a friendly place right in town (buen camino café), and back on the trail. I haven’t walked the “main” route, but not sure why anyone would take it instead…

Only had 13 miles in me this day. Wonderful stop. Restaurant was good. I had lunch at the one on trail, and dinner up the hill. The albergue so nice. Make sure and walk up to the church.

Such a short detour and saw beautiful scenery. Stopped and had an ice cold smoothie that I am still thinking about. A cute place to stop.

We decided to use alt route for additional water. Found the route to have lots of interesting decor to see.

Once in town, the patio seating with locals eating huge sandwiches and coffee pulled us in. Wonderful food for reasonable price.

Pet donkey across the street was nice charming site as well!

In solchen Herbergen muss man sehr aufpassen, was man ungewollt einsammelt (Bettwanzen, Fußpilz etc.).
Ich empfehle, eine andere Herberge aufzusuchen! Da gibt es wesentlich angenehmere, wo auch Preis-Leistung stimmen.

We had an amazing stay last night. Alessandra was a great host. Nice kitchen facilities to make your own food.

A meadery opened up just 2 blocks up from Albergue San Saturnino(great spot). Their bar is open early in the day and their different meads(called hidromiel) and honey beers are FANTASTIC! Just a really mellow spot to sit and hang out after a long day on the Camino. I'd recommend the Hidromiel con Limon, perfect level of acidity and sweetness. Also, the owner's father will give a talk about bees, beekeeping, and the environment if you're interested in learning about that stuff 🐝

Food was available for lunch and dinner in Buen Camino at the very start of the town. Everything else seemed to be closed.
Albergue San Saturnino is an oasis of calm. A clean, beautiful and relaxing Albergue. Separate sex bathrooms, good number of showers and toilets. Places in the garden to relax. Hand wash and machine wash available for clothes. The owner has some staple foods for sale that you can cook with: eg pasta and sauce and some veg. Well equipped kitchen.

The hotel Las Aquedas is lovely and the woman kind. Ventosa is a residential village with no shops. There are supposed to be 3 places to eat (bars). May 2022 One is closed for construction, the other closed just closed (?) And cafe Buen Camino had handwritten hours posted on the door different than what's listed online, and then still wasn't open during those. Bring food with you if you stay here.

Camino de Sant…

Wished we had stopped in Navarrete which had lots of services for pilgrims. Arrived in Ventosa and waited for the Albergue to open. The lady running the place didn't have any space without reservation but didn't tell anyone. We waited about 45 minutes before going to the hotel which wouldn't accommodation our family of three. Another 30 minute wait in midday sun. Told us to take a taxi for 20 Euro to Najera. Eight pilgrims walked on in the hot sun to Najera. There's not enough services in Ventosa. Finally got into Najera at 3:00pm and everything full. Had to pay almost 90 Euro to accommodate three people. Not a great day.
