Gonzar has a bar and a small albergue — a practical stop after the climb from Portomarín. The Iglesia de Santa María is simple but has some Romanesque stonework.

The Road

The camino leaves along the road but departs from it quite quickly. You will find that it does this often; the arrows have been placed in a manner which keeps you as far from heavy traffic as possible.

Historians de Gonzar. Big menus on fence and building. Great selection of food. Arrived at 1200, only options were on the cold sandwich list. Very disappointing

The staff are fast, efficient and not here for jokes or chats. Good is good — breakfast especially great options. Full bar, solid menu for rest of day. Open all day! Got a private room to say —- so quiet!! Large TV with Netflix. Amazing. Great place for a quick respite. Otherwise nothing in gonzar at all.

This is a good stop for water/food/coffee/aseos but prepare for the lines for the services available. Good menu options here.

Great location right on the Camino and is particularly good if you want to stay off-stage from the large groups of pilgrims between Sarria and Compostela. Room was extremely clean and great bathroom with good water pressure for hot showers. Laundry facilities too. They are stickers for the 2:30pm
check-in time. So if you arrive early like I did, grab a beer and lunch while waiting. Highly recommend.

Gonzar cafe at the 8km mark is a welcome rest stop with a diverse breakfast and lunch menu, veggie friendly but also plenty for carnivores. Staff was professional, efficient and plenty of tables to sit. They also have plugs if you need a charge and has free Wi-Fi . Highly recommend, can handle groups

Very nice, modern albergue with a pool, which was perfect for us in a July heatwave. Air conditioning in the main restaurant. The place is spotless and the service in the cafe / restaurant is fast and excellent. The double room was cool in temperature with a modern bathroom/shower. Very nice and efficient owner family.
