Beautiful new albergue. Almost to posh for pilgrims as you are forbidden from washing your clothes in the hand washbasins but there is no outside (or other) sink for washing clothes and there is also no washing machine. Gwen will do one load (if you have a full load) but that’s all she can manage so if you don’t get there early you are in trouble.

Lovely pilgrim meal with meat! Delicious veg option available.
Paper upper sheet as well as lower.

It was worth the 2 km walk to San Estaban and to stay at Buen Camino. Lovely meals and very knowledgeable hosts. They suggested instead of taking the road back to the Camino to walk the coast path. It was stunning and well worth a couple of extra kilometers.

Our stay at the albergue was comfortable and relaxing but we did not like having to walk into San Estaban on the extremely busy road. It was quite dangerous because there was no shoulder and we had to jump out of the way of a van. Perhaps, it was because of increased traffic due to weekend festivities but I would not risk again. I guess if the host is able to pick you up, then go for it. We did not know that option was available.

Although a bit over 1 kilometer off the Camino, this albergue is worth the extra steps. Gwen is a wonderful host, making us feel welcome, allowing us time for a cafe and cervesa before checking in. Our room, the bathroom, and shower were exceptionally clean.
We had the pilgrim’s dinner and breakfast, which were both quite delicious.
Almost more importantly, both Gwen and her husband, Benjamin, encouraged us to walk the Senda Norte (apparently this is only listed in the Dutch guidebook) out of town before rejoining the Camino. Although it added 5k, it was an incredibly beautiful and well marked route. I’m so glad we took their advice.
Albergue Buen Camino is at the top of places we’ve stayed on the Norte!

A wonderful and welcoming pilgrim alberge. There is a small bar on the first floor and brand new rooms for pilgrims on the second floor. The hosts are warm and helpful. If needed, he comes to collect from Soto de Barco.1 night price 20€
