Mougas is a small coastal village strung along the main road. The camino passes through following the bike path, and there are a couple of campsites along this stretch -- the O Muino campsite and the Mougas Campsite, the latter of which also operates an albergue solidario. The Galician coast between here and Baiona is consistently beautiful, with the Atlantic always in view.

The Road

The camino from Mougas to As Mariñas follows the now familiar pattern of following the bike/hike path as it parallels the road, occasionally departing from it.

Along the way you will pass the O Muino campsite on your left, the defunct OMAR3 restaurant, and the Mougas Campsite (and Albergue Solidario) on your left.

Between Mougas and As Mariñas we stayed at El Descanso del Peregrino - a 3 bedroom house not 1/2 km off the Camino. They let the rooms individually like an albergue. There is a full kitchen washing machine and great sunny drying area. No food outlets around, but they gave great instructions instructions to bring food, and full details of the cafe Explanada Horizontales a couple of km before them. In addition they provided bread, ham, cheese, fruit, salad vegetables, tea and coffee. And then reappeared at dinner time with home-made empanada and cake. One of our most delightful stays!

We had a private room and it was great. Everything was clean and nice. There is nothing around the albergue beside one the restaurant of the albergue both doesn’t open before 15. So if you arrive before have snacks and water. I recommend stopping for lunch 2 km before the albergues at the restaurants there if you want that.

We got a bedroom for two as a treat , slept with the door onto private balcony open , to the sound of the North Atlantic Ocean. Private bathroom and 57€. The staff are all friendly and enjoy working here it seems, which is a tribute to the owners . A good rest to continue on The Camino.

Just after the camping place (closed this time of year but there was a vending machine and toilets) the Camino route directs you to the right towards the forest track. This is a hilly stony pathway to Baiona and it was flooded in places. It is possibly as quick and definitely easier to stay on the yellow bike lane following the coast.

I paid €42 for a private double room.
Private balcony with sea view was a welcomed extra bonus. Could enjoy open door all night with fresh sea air.
Clean room and bathroom although outdated.
Breakfast was disappointing. Only coffee and a very small scone.

The only caffe opens from 3pm.
There is a greenhouse and they sell water.
Also from Portocello till this point there is no water fountain.

Camino de Sant…

I stayed at the above Albergue last night. It was beautiful and clean. View outstanding. Great experience. Sheets and towels provided. Really recommend them. Price 12 Euros.

Camino de Sant…

Had a great night on the top floor of the open air restaurant, facing the sea, Soul attached to the Alberge. The food, drink and company was perfect as we watched the sun going down with a cool G&T in our hands.
