The road here begins to enter vine country, and soon the source of El Bierzo’s delicious products become evident. Resist the urge to sample the grapes; they are frequently sprayed with insecticides. So too are the cherry trees, but that doesn’t stop most pilgrims.

This was the first place open for breakfast after Ponferrada. The first cafe as you enter the village served great coffee and napolitanas.

Nice clean room, Comfortable bed, Pleasant host, food available downstairs, Excellent value.

We went to a lovely little pub / cafe in Fuentes nuevas. It was off the beaten track but worth the detour. The cafe is called Meson Los Comensales. The people had no English but were welcoming and we had a lovely meal.
