There is a nice place for a swim in the river in the northwest corner of Mansilla. Cross over the small pedestrian bridge towards the camping place (not the road bridge that the camino crosses) located in the northwest corner of town. Getting there will take you through several of Mansilla’s small plazas.

Fiesta

The Virgen de Gracia is celebrated on the second Sunday in September. San Martín is celebrated on the 11th of November.

History

Mansilla traces its history back to Roman times, and the walls that continue to surround most of the city bear evidence to its importance; it was both a layover on the Roman road to León and a market town (mostly mules).

The Road

Mansilla still has large sections of its defensive walls, look back when leaving town to get the best view of them.

Much of the way between here and Puente de Villarente is adjacent to the road.

The gentleman who runs Casa Di Doru is very kind and hospitable. He recently bought the establishment and is trying to build up the business and make improvements.

This is a great place to rest and recuperate in a private room. 30€ is very well worth the investment.

Dinner was fantastic - we had a pizza that is enough for two people. Great chef.

I have stayed in all sorts of dormitories/Alburgues and this establishment a nice treat to have some privacy and space to get ready for the push to Santiago.

Highly recommend to stay here ❤️🙌👌

We were charged 68€ for the room.

We booked a double room by phone at El Jardin, app shows 55-60€ which we know is out of date. But on arrival were shown to a room in La Casa de los Soportales showing on the app as only 45€. Feel totally ripped off.

It's not listed here, but Casa Di Doru was a nice place to stay. My private single room with private bath only cost 30€ on booking.com. Unfortunately, I was there on a Monday when the restaurant is closed, but it had great reviews on Google Maps.

I was sooo happy to learn of this wonderful place outside of town. They sent a cab for us and we had the most lovely dinner - about 10 of us w room for many more. A pool and nice small pool for your feet. Bonus. A great heart, super kind and a unique stay. Air conditioned Beds not bunks. Loved it

We were blessed to stay with Miguel and Sally. They are located out of town, but sent a taxi to pick us up which was nice on our sore feet. Sally was very responsive to all our questions and requests before, during, and after our visit. The pilgrim dinner was delicious and we had nice choices for breakfast. The pillows were the most comfortable we’ve used on the Camino. We opted to take an alternative route to Leon, the Dutch Way, that we accessed right outside their door.

A bit off road, but they arrange for you to be picked up in Mansilla de Las Mulas if you don’t want the extra steps.
Sally went out and beyond to accommodate all our wishes! She is a real star!
Ask for a ride back to Mansilla though, because the alternative road they suggest direct to Leon means walking on a rural road, not very busy but the cars passing by goes really fast.

We also had lunch at Restaurante La Curiosa, and can confirm that their 16 euros lunch was absolutely fantastic. Some of the best food we’ve had on the Camino!!

I stayed in a wonderful place 6km out of the village with Miguel and Sally. It is a villa with private rooms and small dorms, a lovely garden with a pool and a very well equipped kitchen. Most importantly though, Miguel is the most wonderful host I met so far. He organised a transport to pick us up in Mansilla (you can also get a transport back to continue your Camino) and also did everything else do make our stay as nice as possible. We would have loved to stay longer!

We stayed the night here and had a fantastic lunch at Restaurante la curiosa. It was a set menu for 16 Euros (including wine water etc) and a huge cut above the average pilgrim meal. Clearly the best restaurant in town, possibly in the area as there were lots of locals having lunch there. A beautiful upstairs room too. No written menu but the waiter was very patient and helpful with our basic Spanish.
