Valtuille de Arriba

The Iglesia de San Martín de Tours still bears the inscription indicating that it was commissioned by the bishop of Astorga. San Martín of Tours was, prior to the popularization of Santiago (and his battle at Clavijo), the patron saint of most of the peninsula.

The Road

Shortly after leaving Pieros the camino splits near a set of power lines. The detour through Valtuille, favored for its safety and scenery, is to the right. The road route continues straight for several kilometers before turning off onto a dirt track. This track will rejoin the Valtuille route.

This albergue is kind of hidden at first, however it can be reached directly from the Camino.

If you're looking for a peaceful, welcoming place, make a stop here and you'll find a lovely garden and a beautiful albergue.

Fabrizio hosted me and was very nice and helpful.

On the road, you'll see a lovely shed which belongs together with the albergue, where you can stop for a coffee and a snack.

It's worth a visit.

The best meal and best sleep of the Camino in Albergue Serbal y Luna in Pieros. Mar and her team epitomize the spirit and philosophy of the Camino. From the moment I got in touch I felt cared for and welcome. Mar is an amazing chef and prepared the most incredible Veggie meal for me. It was worth the extra 2km walk from Cacabelos.

The road route follows a stream much of the way. No effort has been made to bring the route along the stream instead of along a road. This is, to say the least, thoughtless.
