Notice

If the bar in Vilela is closed, the only option for buying supplies between here and Villamartín Grande is in San Vicente, a short detour from the camino described below.

The Road

Take the turn off to the right to follow a smaller road through the forest. This road follows a broad bend and eventually turns back towards the LU-133 (which was the main road in Vilela). Before the camino gets all the way to the road, it turns to the right along a path.

NOTE: At this point you do have the option of continuing straight to the LU-133 where you can find a coffee in the town of San Vicente without adding any extra distance to your walk. When you get to the LU-133 turn right. At the far end of the sparsely populated village the camino turns from the north to cross over the LU-133 so you can simply follow it (about 2km) all the way to this junction.

When the official camino returns to the LU-133 it does not follow it; instead it crosses to the other side and descends along a path to the next road. It then zig zags a bit as it descends via paved roads to the bridge in Arante.

Hello friends,

Specially for Camino del Norte pilgrims.

Just to help you avoid bad experience.
6 km after Ribadeo there is a place Restaurante a Pena Vilela.

Avoid it. The worst Corrientes and attitude towards pilgrims. We don’t tent to write negative things, but this time it’s better to write.

Bad attitude. Talking behind our backs and laughing.

He was cheating with money and things that we ordered. The way he communicated was terrible. We asked if we can pay with card, he said no, and right away begin to shout that he will call to police. Very unstable person. We usually don’t complain. This time we do so you don’t get into this strange place. Yes. Unless you stay in albergue, otherwise you are nothing and his attitude will show you.

He understands English until he needs to understand when he doesn’t like something, he says that he does not understand.

Terrible.
Try to the avoid this place.

If possible stay and eat somewhere else. We noticed that he treated nicely the ones who stay here but others - not so nice. It’s all about attitude.

Rude attitude. Talking behind backs. Trying to earn. Better eat your own sandwiches than support this kind of attitude.

If you choose to add a couple of kilometers to your day, there is a good, low price, hotel called Casa Domingo in San Vicente. Single room with your own bathroom, excellent dinner and good breakfast served at the hotel for the package price of EUR 40.

Was unable to stay here. The municipal albergue was closed and the private albergue was full at 13:00. The private albergue is a part of the bar and the owners were not very friendly to us nor to other pilgrims that came in. Just know that if you don’t stay in vilela that the next accommodations are in villamartin grande 12km down the road (or you could go backwards). We ended up having a very long day but the pilgrim guesthouse in villamartin grande is fantastic!

Vilela: clean and well set up. Only one bunk bed, the others are all single beds. 2 decent sized, modern bathrooms, each with a shower. Bar has a menu del dia for 10 euros. Didn’t expect much because this is the only restaurant, but the salads, and pork ribs were great. The ribs were tender, moist and falling off the bone. Kitchenette has a microwave and service ware, but is in same room as the beds. Back pack lockers are available. Each bed has a plug for charging. 12 euros pp was the easiest albergue we’ve stayed in to get out quietly in the morning due to set up.

The private albergue is located directly in front of the municipal
