After 28 days of walking the Camino where i experience much kindness and friendliness from local people
, this is the first place I experienced unpleasantry and racism (I’m an Asian). We stopped by Tio Pepe at 1230pm to have lunch before continuing our journey onwards. I asked for the Pilgrim’s menu and the owner gestured no no, 1pm. I don’t speak Spanish and he doesn’t speak English. No issue as there’s translation app. His wife came out. I let her speak into the speaker to translate but network was weak so it didn’t work. She gave the most annoyed look n rolled her eyes. When the network came on, I requested her to speak again, and she just shook her head and spoke. I requested to order first as I could wait. They refused to. If it’s not for the fact I had to walk 9.8km to the next village, I would have walked out. Later, a man in his 40s who I guessed is the help staff showed up at 1. He was much nicer. I approached him to order lunch. He translated in his own phone that it’s only from 130pm. By then, I decided to order just a pasta dish. I thanked him for his kindness. At 115pm, I saw two local men being served the first course of the set menu. And i thought set menu can only be ordered from 130pm. If you’re a westerner, you should be fine. Avoid if you’re an Asian (P.S. I’m not a Korean).

I read some scary comments and was worried because I had prebooked there. Much better than expected! The private room was spacious, as was the bathroom. Comfy bed and tv with multiple channels. The menu dinner was excellent. There were some locals with dogs, but everyone was friendly. I’d stay there again!

Close your windows and shutters at night if you stay here! I was woken up at 4am by a man in a mask throwing stones through my window. I was terrified so called the police!

Good small supermarket in town - open morning and evening. Not during siesta.

Thankfully, I had a better experience at Albergue Tio Pepo than the other review left on here. Despite it being busy with pilgrims, I am on my own in a shared bunk room. The ladies behind the bar have been really kind and friendly, and the food and service have been really good.
It’s definitely a locals hangout - the bar was packed at lunchtime, and this evening, there are locals in the courtyard and I’ve spotted a dog but not causing any issues. You can book online at onlypilgrims.com.

We stayed here last night in a room for 2 and after a nice afternoon chatting with other pilgrims we were happy to hear we could get food at 6:30. There is an inner courtyard that feels like a pilgrim area (laundry, tables and chairs). We sat there after the hostess told us she would take our order there. It was an hour before she did and another 45 before all 4 of us got our food. A group of 6-8 local men came in and took a table in the courtyard. They were smoking and literally tossing the butts. There were 2-3 dogs that lived there and one that a local brought in. The dogs begged right at our table and marked their territory a couple of times within 2 meters of our table. Our room was clean but I wouldn’t want another pilgrim experience this place.
