There is a beautiful well sign posted alternative to the Camino called the Via Verde - look it up on your maps. It is lush, sheltered with dappled light, flat even ground, no vehicles which runs higher above the Camino.

We walked it from Hotel Asturias all the way to Puente de Bejar (and yes there are paths to walk down towards all the towns if you want to head there).

This will avoid many kilometres of walking the asphalt road on the Camino from Aldunueva de Camino to Puerto de Bejar.

Camino de Sant…

Just wanted to add that the route mentioned by the other poster really works. However, it hadn’t rained for a month when we went on it and there were still water crossings that got our feet wet despite our best efforts. As they said, don’t use it if it’s been raining!

Camino de Sant…

Leaving Hostel Asturias there is a much more pleasant, alternative route to Aldeanueva which avoids the main road. It is marked with royal blue arrows. Turn left out of the hostel and follow the road for <1km where there is a blue arrow pointing to the right onto a country path (it’s visible on google maps). The path continues fairly straight, past a factory ??sewage works (also visible on google maps) and eventually joins the main route just after the switchback/dog leg. Word of caution - after a few showers of rain there were some big puddles and the minor streams had become a little difficult to cross, so probably best avoided if there has been any serious rain.
