From the high point of San Martín the camino goes down but right back up again to follow along the ridge of the hillside. It goes up and down a few times before climbing up to the church at Santiago del Monte.

This is a fabulous place to stay run by the wonderful Maria and a team of volunteers. I stayed here one night in May and arrived after a very long walk from Gijon. To say I was tired is an understatement, almost felt like crying from the very difficult walk that day. On arrival she could obviously see this and immediately tried to arrange a massage for me (has 4 different contacts!). I was in a female only dorm which was great and had a huge feed of dinner, where she offered seconds, it was delicious. Really simple but healthy food and some wine. We then played crazy card games which was so much fun. Breakfast was also good. I had my massage in the morning while other pilgrims went off to yoga with Maria before they left for the day, just perfect! There is such a caring feeling in this hostel, it totally embodies the spirit of the Camino ❤️❤️❤️

The genuine hospitality is amazing from Maria. The home is at the back of the gorgeous church and it has so many beautiful old characteristics. The communal meal is vegetarian and nice served with wine. The is cold drinks, ice cream and chips for a donation. The views are lovely from the garden and space available for drying clothes. The warmth from Maria makes the place special

Loved the place. The owner and her volontier were just amazing and super kind. Felt really welcomed.
She cooked an amazing dinner and the breakfast was also great! (You get more than toast and jam ;))
There is a washing Maschine (3€) and a dryer (3€).
They have cold drinks like: Coca Cola, “Fanta”, beer and Radler and you pay what you want (D€) . And they even have ice cream.
The only “negative” thing is, that the ladies bathroom is not really private especially the toilet. So if you wanna go the toilet privately, you should wait till everyone is asleep ;)
At the evening they went with us on a little walk to show us an amazing view on the ocean. It was really nice.
Would definitely recommend!

The albergue is open again! Maria is the new owner of the Albergue and she is a warm and wise soul. And she offers also a good dinner ;)

Owner screwed up his back. Don’t know when it will reopen. Instead, try Alamar in Salinas. $30 for a bed. Clean. Nice folks.

We had a wonderful stay at Jose’s albergue. He truly loves what he is doing and creates a positive atmosphere for pilgrims. We also had a wonderful communal meal, thanks to an Italian fellow who cooked up a big lentil stew and we all pitched in on the rest. A wonderful Camino experience.

Vistas are fabulous low key vibe. clean and simple. Love the fact it is connected to the church.
