This sleepy agricultural town is best known for being the cuña (birthplace) of Santo Domingo de la Calzada. History did not see fit to preserve his house but the font in which he was baptized remains in the church.

Sandwiches and beverages are available at the Parada Viloria albergue.

The Refugio was one of my fav stays along whole trail. Just book, you will see. Such wonderful people who met on the Camino. You will not regret your stay here. The Camino vibe. The friendly banter. The spectacular pilgrim dinner. Wonderful.

Wonderful welcome & really good, freshly cooked omelette from Marije on arrival. Lovely atmosphere. Fairly basic but 2 showers & 2 toilets available for 16 beds. Some lovely homemade jewellery & souvenirs for sale. Fantastic communal meal cooked by Toni - chicken & shrimp paella. Only downside (a big downside) was that it was absolutley freezing in the dorm. There was a stove heater type of thing in the corner but Mariaje said she didn't know how to use it. She gave us all 2 blankets after we asked but even with them & a sleeping bag & all my clothes, I was still cold, as was everyone in the dorm.

This wonderful albergue opens after April 20th 2023.

Camino de Sant…

Upon exiting the town, be sure to take the path on the right hand side toward the N-120. As of March 2022 there are also arrows going to the left path but this is WRONG it leads to a multi hour delay with no services. I learned it the hard way!

Camino de Sant…

The first restaurant as you enter town on the right is donativo and makes excellent sandwiches.
