Notice

The camino, before entering Póvoa de Santa Iria, turns right and heads directly towards a tunnel that passes under the A1. DO NOT go through that tunnel. Instead, turn left and continue another 700m before turning right into a second tunnel. See caution symbol on the map above.

Camino de Sant…

April 2022 - The albergue is open again since mid March, and they accept reservations on the phone. They say it is suggested to book every place in advance, including albergues, as they are not giving out every bed.

Camino de Sant…

Lovely welcome, very clean and well-arranged. Takes 10 people - 8 upstairs and a side area downstairs with 2 beds. We had those and were very happy with them - might need eyeshades as the nightlight is pretty bright. Lights out at 10pm.
There is a policy of NO BICYCLES so if you are cycling, give it a miss!
Have to go to local cafe for food (pretty basic food).
Getting to Alpriate is a bit of a task if the weather is hot as most of the 7km from Ponte Sacavem is hot and dry and shadeless.

Camino de Sant…

When you leave the Alberque in Alpirate, You will walk down between some houses and then along a white gravelly Road. You will arrive at around about which is part of a main road. You will see another small roundabout ahead but this is not the roundabout mentioned in the description, turn right and walk along the main road until the next roundabout as you are walking if you look ahead and to the right you will see the tunnel mentioned in the app.

Camino de Sant…

This albergue is still closed, which I didn’t realise until I arrived! It says in their Facebook that they will reopen in March 2022.

Camino de Sant…

There is only one shower and no stove, just a microwave. Great selection at the supermarket which surprisingly was big for the size of town. Easy to leave early if you request the ground floor beds (no bunks).

Camino de Sant…

The new price for a bed is 10 euros

Camino de Sant…

Some new arrows take you into Granja, at the red brick bridge. If you want to stop and have a coffee go for it, if not follow the directions in the app or else you'll do 2 km for nothing.

Camino de Sant…

Since I haven’t done this Camino before I cannot tell with certainty but it looks like they have changed the path. Right before that tunnel (very steep with only one lane for cars) the arrows point to the left and then, after quite some distance- could be 700m) it goes through that second tunnel (which is short, broad and loads of light coming through). :) Buen Camino!

Camino de Sant…

Good Albergue. Christina runs a tight ship and does a terrific job. This was a welcome refuge after a hot days walk.

Camino de Sant…

Do NOT take the way that is marked red above. Two female pilgrims were attacked hier 16 sep 2020 (more explanation when you Google it) and a female pilgrim was beaten and raped 4 years earlier. The police doesn't seem to care. I felt super uncomfortable walking there. So I would STRONGLY advice to take another road and skip this bit. (At least this - to be honest I felt very unsafe up to Tomár, if I could choose again, I'd rather start the Camino in Tomár!!
