There are a few bar/bakeries and a pharmacy on your right as you enter the town, the former serve up Torta de Aceite, a type of flatbread that is both delicious and unique to the area.

Fiesta

San Isidro (not to be confused with Isidoro) is celebrated on the 15th of May.

History

Passing through Tardajos, along the shortest path possible, the average pilgrim would be forgiven for overlooking its historical significance.

In fact, Tardajos lies at the intersection of the two primary and ancient trade routes that bisected this land. It was once a walled city and had three magnificent churches. Only one, the Iglesia de Santa María, remains.

Tardajos, like Rabé de las Calzada (ahead), also had a castle on a hill.

The Road

The camino departs from the main road in Tardajos and from here you won’t return to anything resembling a busy road until Frómista, do not be tempted to keep on the main road but rather cross the street and pass through the village.

Perhaps it’s good for us Peregrino/as to be reminded that we are the strangers?

This bar has the very great advantage of being open in March. The food is ready to eat. Tea was hot. There was a fire & a bathroom. That’s a whole lotta ticks.

Perhaps treat the staring men as a social experiment? Work out if you can make them smile?

Beware March travellers - there is not much open! Stock up.

Definitely an old man pub, but don't let that deter you. I got a beer on tap, two little olive pintxos and a sello, no problems. It was siesta so I imagined I wouldn't have a whole lot of choice. I kept to myself and the old fellas kept to themselves and we all enjoyed Wheel of fortune on the telly. Alissa, 40, Australia 🦘🦘🦘

Rude bar owner. I wish I’d read the reviews here first. Worst torta on the Camino. As if it’s that hard to know how long to microwave it. Stink eye from locals. Not worth the food or service.

Pececitos is fine. The bartender broke a 50 for me when all that I bought was two cokes. He also called a taxi for us as we had to return to Burgos. I said hello to the local men who were standing around and they said hello back. Don’t expect people to jump for joy just because you are a pilgrim. It’s just a day in the life for them.

Camino de Sant…

Pececitos bar looks tempting because it’s right on the road, but don’t give them the business. I highly recommend that you read the owner’s responses to previous poor reviews on google maps. That will give you an idea of the hospitality here. Completely unreal. Full of old local men who stare and give the stink-eye to pilgrims like you don’t belong and that’s even to just a normal person dressed decently.

Nice clean modern facilities. Beds comfy. Rooms have charm. Washing machine, 3 euros lots of dryer racks. My only negative was that I felt it lacked a bit of love. A smile doesn't go amiss but they were in very short supply. Cafe restaurant with good food options. Nice garden.

Camino de Sant…

My opinion. Definitely a locals place. Bartender a bit bursque. I wouldn't give any"A" for friendliness but I hadn't had my first cup of coffee or breakfast yet. No other choices as yet this morning.
Bathrooms not very clean.

Highly recommend Albergue La Factoria! See review above (I forgot to include the name of the albergue)

Get the Torta de aceita at Bar Bocateria Yoli, first on the right. Best sandwich I’ve had on the Camino. Amazing bread.

Beautiful private room for 36 euros and outstanding pilgrim meal for 12 euros. The dorm rooms are reported to have just a few bunks. Highly recommend staying here! Note: ATM in town might be down for servicing for awhile around midday.
