On the way into Luarca take a pause to admire five of its finest Casas de los Indianos; immediately on the camino are the Villas Excelsior, Cristina, Rosario, Argentina, and Barrera.

Being a river city the monuments, beaches and accommodations in Luarca are on both side; it is a crooked river and there are several crossing points. As usual, the best views are a hike away to the headland where you will find the faro (lighthouse) and the Capilla de la Atalaya.

Fiesta

The fiesta of Nuestra Señora del Rosario is celebrated on the 15th of August and San Timoteo is celebrated on the 22nd.

The Road

Leaving Luarca the camino climbs a bit, winding its way uphill though a residential expansion of the city. The road straightens out and levels off, and the camino follows it all the way to Otur. It crosses the N-634 along the way and when it passes through Otur (which is located on the N-634) it does so to the south of town.

I had to stay because I had to wait for a package but very glad it was in this friendly city. Stayed in Hotel Rico, highly recommended! The city has a beautifull big church and cemetery uphull, another cute chapel with an overview of the town, beautiful large botanical garden and nice trail to walk. Loved to be here for some days

Unfortunately, we heard from the other donativo owners that Casa Lua is closed (don’t know if that’s permanent but as of April 2023 it’s not open at the moment)

We are so glad we stopped to stay at Casa Lua, about 2 km after Luarca. Oscar, Lua, and their dogs welcomed us into their home and made us feel at home. The dorm was simple and clean, what really stood out was the delicious dinner, delightful conversation and welcoming atmosphere. This place is the magic stuff of the Camino.

There is a lovely donativo albergue about 1 hr walking from Luarca. It’s called Casa Lua and well worth the stop. Lovely hospitaleros and a fabulous dinner. Opens at 3. Highly recommend.

We recommend the lavanderia City Sec Avenida de Galicia that cost the same and the guy did a really good job.

Camino de Sant…

Don’t miss this cute little town. Book ahead at the albergue or it’s €30 for one person at Oria Hostal with shared bathroom and own room.

Although no self-service laundromat features on any map search in Luarca, I found one near La Pelu De Isa in Luarca. €5 for a wash and €3 for a dry.
