If you're the kind of pilgrim who sees beauty in every bruise, this might still be a hard sell. The volunteer fire department in Oliveira de Azeméis deserves credit for opening their old firehouse to weary travelers—there’s something noble in the gesture—but the place feels like a forgotten outpost on the edge of the Camino. Peeling paint, broken tiles, mold creeping like an unwelcome guest, and zero welcome from anyone upon arrival. It took nearly an hour to gain access, and when the doors finally opened, the space was still in the disheveled state the last pilgrims left it. A cleaning lady eventually arrived and tried her best, but the decay goes far deeper than dust. No WiFi, no kitchen, no common area, no stamp, no donation box—and not a whisper of Camino spirit. Just a room with a few beds under a low ceiling and the ghost of what this place could be if the community and fire department gave it the love it desperately needs. It’s a shame, really. This old firehouse has the bones to be something special. As it stands: a mattress, mold, and memories best left behind. One star for the blankets and the hope that one day this place becomes worthy of the pilgrims who pass through.

Camino de Sant…

Not for the faint of heart. It smell like sewage and they insisted on us paying 5 Euros. Stay here if you must or don’t want to spend 50euros for the closest hotel
