Albergue de Peregrinos Rainha Santa Isabel

Santa Clara

Description and Notice

When visiting this albergue to collect information for the guide I was refused. As such the price and services remain unknown to me, though you are welcome to leave them in the comments. Be advised that reviews on google strongly imply that the hospitalero acts as a gatekeeper, refusing entry to pilgrims that do not have enough stamps in their credential.

The manager here was fabulous. True, they have rules, and true, they will scrutinize your credentials at first. Just make sure your credentials are dated and you have 2 stamps each day. But as it turns out, they are particular because they care. I saw the manager with a giant medical kit bandaging up a pilgrim. Then he came in later and chatted about local customs. He’s a pilgrim and loves what he does. 10€/night includes a full kitchen, bottom sheet, pillowcase and blanket.

The strict lady has retired and been replaced by Victor. Very helpful. Good kitchen. Lidl is only a short walk away. Worth staying here if you want to avoid the city. Magnificent views over Coimbra.

Camino de Sant…

A strange place with many rules. €10. Opens at 2pm, walk through to the bar where a very strict receptionist welcomes you and explains in explicit details all the rules about staying in the albergue. Stuffy rooms. There are three more showers and one toilet upstairs. BYO toilet paper. They do have wifi. For the price I would recommend paying a bit more and staying in the city centre.

Camino de Sant…

Tour the church and cloisters for 2€.so worth it. Even just to see Saint Queen Isabel’s silver casket.
