The town is the only one on the whole of the Camino Francés to be named after a female Saint (St. Catherine of Alexandria). A relic of St. Blaise is kept in the parish church, and the town was known to have a pilgrim hospital. The ‘Somoza’ part of the name is a simple description of its geographical position at the foot of the hill. The hill, of course, lies ahead.

Camino de Sant…

We stayed here because La Boheme was closed. Dinner really average but not too expensive (11€) compared to the average. Men's shower not working, women's shower working but not strong and taking an eternity to heat up. Shower, toilet and sink in the same room that can be locked, so you can't access the toilet if someone is showering. Overall not good.

Stopping at this cafe this morning was a highlight of our Camino. The young couple from Düsseldorf who own the Cafe are delightful. The apple cake ala mode was delicious and they were so gracious and welcoming. We wish them the best of luck in their new endeavor.

Camino de Sant…

Absolutely delicious food. I had a spinach quiche topped with pine nuts and a GRANDE Cafe con Leche!!!
Great place to stop!!

Camino de Sant…

ABSOLUTELY STOP HERE! Delicious homemade musli with yogurt, mango, banana, nuts. If I weren't full I would try the home made apple pie. Sweetest, cutest couple!

Camino de Sant…

Visit for breakfast! Very lovely German couple who just opened on 7.9.2022.

They have (vegan) bowls and good sandwiches and you will feel very well eating here. Worth to visit!!!

Camino de Sant…

This restored house is a wonderful place to pause on your journey. Very warm welcome and each of the rooms is beautifully presented. Attention to detail is superb throughout and the salon has the most amazing views. A delicious breakfast is served here with atmospheric candles and soothing music. Best coffee so far. There is no evening meal. However, there are bars in the village that serve a pilgrim menu. There is also a honesty bar for wine. A tranquil courtyard completes this unique hotel. Would highly recommend.

Camino de Sant…

Worth every penny. Would stay again. Highly recommended

We stayed at San Blas and were delighted when the host brought us the most delicious lentils and salad. It was a refreshing change from the carne and bread. The rooms are acceptable, nothing to write home about, but do the job for resting.

Very nice place to stay. The owner speaks English. Couldn’t ask for a nicer or cleaner place to stay. Highly recommend Avis.

I stayed at the new Via Avis for something different. Beautiful but expensive. Dinner at the Albergue Centro was great value for €10.
