Abandoned Monasterio de Obona (Santa Maria la Real)

Although designated a National Monument, the Monasterio is largely abandoned.

Construction began in 13th. c on top of a previous temple which dates back to 780. The Benedictines occupied the monastery during the wealthy years of the pilgrimage. Alfonso IX went so far as to mandate that pilgrims from Oviedo pay a visit.
