The history of this ermita is still up for debate, and like most things in Spain are divided into two camps. Half believe it is of Knights Templar origin, and the rest who believe it was a funeral chapel. Separate yourself from that intellectual debate and you will find a countryside setting with a small gem of architecture for you to contemplate.

Mañeru
Puente la Reina has an etymology which is clear, but a historical record which is not. The six-arched bridge that spans the Río Arga was built at the request of the Queen. Which queen remains to be proven. What we do know is that the construction took place in the 11th.c. to help pilgrims cross this deep river.
At the time it was not yet established as a village of any note, but the safe crossing soon allowed it to draw traffic away from the less reputable crossings up and down stream.
